Crochet: The Fiber Art Done by Hand

The craft of crochet has been around for centuries. It is used for practical purposes like fishing nets or garments like dresses or sweaters. The craft itself has evolved throughout time and culture, and many create unique patterns that are one-of-a-kind. Crochet remains one of the few fiber arts that cannot be replicated by a machine. That means that a person is making each stitch by hand for hours. It is labor-intensive work. Because of this, the crochet garment’s price should reflect the materials and hours of work put in. When we witness fast-fashion sites selling crocheted items for next to nothing we should question the wages paid to workers. We live in a time where matters like these should be on our minds as we shop. What we buy promotes the business practices we deem acceptable.
By purchasing from a local business like CBK, you know that the crochet jacket was crafted with care by the hands of our designer, Karina Castillo. Each strand of yarn was stitched with thought and the result was made especially for you. The Jacket pictured below is available for purchase and is a one-of-one design.
